It is rare that a building of such architectural and cultural significance as Shire Hall in Chelmsford becomes available for adaptation and reuse. This is your opportunity to be part of Chelmsford’s plans to enhance the position of England’s newest city as a significant regional centre for development and trade.
Following a refurbishment which will be completed shortly, Essex County Council, is seeking new partners who will implement a commercially driven but sensitive scheme to enhance and improve this magnificent building.
Essex County Council is therefore inviting ‘expressions of interest’ from those wishing to change and evolve a new future for this landmark building.
In making decisions about the future of Shire Hall, ECC will:
- ensure any future uses of the building deliver a sustainable financial model that generates income to benefit the residents of Essex.
- Favour proposals that can demonstrate flair and innovation in conserving the important heritage aspects of the building.
- require uses that enable a continuation of public access to the building.
