Shire Hall sits on Tindal Square at the heart of Chelmsford. It is situated between Duke Street to the west and New Street to the east. To the rear of the property lies Chelmsford Cathedral and surronding grounds.

In the immediate vicinity, the eastern side of Duke Street houses a collection of shops, and restaurants at street level which in many cases contain offices on the upper floors.

On the western side of Duke Street the historic elements of the County Hall complex dominate the street scene which is again interspersed with shops, restaurants and public houses.

Immediately to the south lies the City’s pedestrianised core shopping area with further retail outlets in the High Chelmer Shopping Centre and Tindal Street.

Chelmsford station lies approximately 400m to the North West of Shire Hall along Duke Street. It provides a direct line to London Liverpool Street and Stratford to the south (30 - 35 minutes) and Colchester and Norwich (1 hour 15 minutes) to the north.

The City is well connected to the road network via the A12, A414 and A130 which connect to the M25 London Orbital to the south west (20 minutes), the M11 to the east (25 minutes) and Stansted Airport to the north west (30 minutes).
