The site is situated 5.1 miles west of Fareham in Hampshire and 7.3 miles to the east of Southampton. The site is located approximately 0.8 mile from Swanwick station, which has a direct connection to London Victoria and Southampton. Junction 9 of the M27 motorway is located 1.6 miles to the north east which provides road links to Portsmouth, Southampton and London (via the M3). Southampton Airport is located approximately 8 miles to the north west. The site is accessed off Coldeast Way via Bridge Road (A27).
Historically, this land was part of a wider estate, which extended to approximately 59 hectares and included a house, garden, park, grazing land and woodland. It began to be used as a hospital during the 20th century. Today, the estate is in mixed ownership with a large proportion owned by the Homes and Communities Agency and its development partner, Miller Homes who are currently developing out the final phases of the development. Southern Health NHS Trust own a site adjacent to the subject site, which comprises the new, purpose built, Fareham Community Hospital.
