Roger is a qualified architect with 40 years experience of design and development. He is known in the industry as a progressive thinker – always striving to create projects that delight, engage and push the boundaries of how architecture can enhance our cities.

Roger was the director of the Infrastructure and Development course at the London School of Economics, and lectures regularly on regeneration policy throughout the UK. He has served as president to the Architectural Association, was a working group member of the government’s Urban Task Force, and is currently a board director of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He has considerable experience in the process of design management of major regeneration projects, including the Greenwich Millennium Village Competition and the Hastings & Bexhill masterplan. He has been awarded eleventh and twelfth best client in the UK by the RIBA Journal. Roger is often asked to give his expertise as a juror, he contributes regularly to the architectural press and teaches and lectures widely.

He is author of Shouldn’t we all be developers?, a book that has sparked a debate about the role that small and independent developers should play in building the new homes that are so desperately required.

From AHMM’s base in London Simon leads a studio that works in the UK and internationally, engaging public and private clients in the exploration of a particular architecture’s potential to offer delight as well as utility.

Simon works on a wide range of scales and typologies. Recent projects include Stratford residential master plan, The Angel, Tea and Yellow Buildings as well as Adelaide Wharf, the Saatchi Gallery and Chobham Academy.

He is currently working on the new Google HQ at King’s Cross, The White Collar Factory at City Road, a new tower 240 Blackfriars, three mixed use projects on Regent Street for the Crown Estate, an academic building for the University of Amsterdam as well as large urban scale projects in London and America.

Simon is Chairman of the Architecture Foundation, a trustee of the Architecture Association Foundation, a visiting professor at The Bartlett and GSD Harvard. He was recently Vice President for Education at the RIBA and a Chair of Design Review at CABE.

Simon engages in the broader architectural discussion as a writer, critic, teacher, judge of competitions, frequent lecturer, examiner, advisor and commentator.
